Based in Boston and reporting to the Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion and dotted line to VP, Human Resources US Division, the US Diversity & Inclusion Leader is responsible for operationalizing Manulife/John Hancock’s global Diversity & Inclusion strategy in the US Division (John Hancock). The Leader will drive the development of John Hancock’s diversity and inclusion priorities, programs and reporting processes in support of driving John Hancock’s business strategy forward. 

The US D&I Leader role is highly collaborative, working in conjunction with key stakeholders including, members of the Global Talent Management team, the Centres of Expertise (COE) from across HR (Talent Acquisition, Leadership and Learning, Performance and Rewards), Corporate Responsibility, Branding and Communications, Legal and Compliance, Reporting and Analytics, US executive committee and business units as well as oversight of managing external D&I partnerships for John Hancock. 

Key Accountabilities 

D&I Strategy & Priorities 
Global D&I Strategy

• Drive the implementation of the D&I strategy across John Hancock business.Participate in important external Business and D & I activities and events consistent John Hancock’s US outreach and corporate responsibilities initiatives.

• Identify needs, recommend and lead the development of key programs that help achieve measurable results and long term behavior change by leveraging both internal resources/education and external consultants/professional associations (i.e. continued advancement of the unconscious bias initiative, advancement of women in leadership ,etc.)

• Integrate and optimize D&I best practices in collaboration with D&I team, HR, CSR and the business.

• Help to establish outcome performance measures, metrics and analytics to relative to diversity initiatives and their impact on the organization.

• In partnership with the Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion and other regional leads contribute to the development, of the global D&I strategy as it relates to the Manulife/John Hancock’s Corporate strategy.

D&I Leadership and Consulting

• Governance oversight for John Hancock D&I programs and external partnerships.

• Consult and partner with stakeholders to lead, assess, develop, implement, measure and continuously enhance key US initiatives/programs to achieve both global and US D&I objectives

• Leverage D&I knowledge, resources, best practices and experience to provide to John Hancock executives with D&I leadership capability

• Collaborate with internal and external regional stakeholders to support the corporate citizenship agenda in relation to D&I and diverse communities

• Partner with US HR Partners and global COEs to infuse D&I strategy into talent processes (i.e. on-boarding, performance management, programming/training, talent retention strategies, etc.)

• Ensure communication of external partnership resources, commitments and US calendar of events.

• Serve as a D&I thought leader internally and external for John Hancock.

• Partner with key stakeholders to ensure the US is meeting/exceeding all employment legislation, including EEOC, and metrics and use related data analytics to drive new or expand existing programs

Skills and Qualifications

• Undergraduate/graduate degree in management, human resources, law

• Demonstrated leadership in diversity and inclusion, change/transformational initiatives

• 10 years of relevant work experience in Human Resources, diversity, leadership development/ learning, organizational development, consulting, or related field

• Strategic thinker who understands and can effectively articulate the business case for inclusion and diversity. Ability to translate strategy into action by aligning enterprise and business unit priorities

• Experience leading people, including influencing up, down and across

• Experience representing an organization internally

• Proven experience in developing and implementing D&I strategy in large, complex organization

• Extensive experience developing diversity strategies in the United States

• Understanding of US employment laws and obligations under those laws

• Budget management Ability to be agile and flexible to deliver in fast-paced, evolving environment

• Highly collaborative and creative with a mindset for change.

• Data-driven decision-making, including robust tracking of progress against project plan

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence others, including the ability to communicate with confidence and empathy on issues of inclusion
